  2. Sorry, I understand castellano just a bit, can anyone tell me what happened to 'las Barranquillas' since 2004/2005? I've lived in Madrid for alomost a year in that period, supporting myself, and unforunately my hevy drug habbit by selling paintings throughout all of Spain, as many of my friends did too. They knew I had 'a problem', but I've managed to keep it to myself. I was able to sell enough paintings so that I never had a 'mono mallo' in front of them. But I frequently visited barranquillas (3-4 times a week), and before we would go to Andalucia for ex, or anywhere, I would 'supply myself for few weeks so I wouldn't abstinate while travelling. I even met some people from my hometown (my neighbourhood non the less - city Split, Croatia there) and some of them died there...
I'm alive and clean for 4 years now, but I will NEVER forget that horror place (it didn't seem so bad a the time (!!!) but now I can't beleive I considered it normal back then) and travelling almost each day from Atocha to el Pozo and then walking for 2-3km to that place...
...Anyway, I am really curious - is barranquillas gone now? Where have all the junkies go? Did the city authorities 'relocate' them somewhere else since that was (let's not pretend) a controlled enviroment where lowest of the low were left alone to 'die in peace' away from shiny and pretty side of Madrid?
Thank you in advance for the answer, because I am planning to go toSpain again and write an article on that place (I am a journalist). I was lucky enough to survive it, and I have a real need to see it with sober eyes once more.
And where can I get good info on all of this?
